Workshop

Silicon Photonics Design Workshop – From Modelling to Design Validation

Sponsored by Luceda Photonics and AMF-Advanced Micro Foundry Pte Ltd

Date: Tuesday, 27 August 2019
Time: 1:00pm – 5:00pm
Lunch at 12:00pm – 1:00pm will be provided.

ABSTRACT:
Waveguides, directional couplers, ring resonators, AWGs, … are a few of the important building blocks of Silicon Photonics. The design and validation of those devices are key to every successful application. Today, both the foundries and the chip designers are developing their device library/PDK (Process Design Kit) to suit their particular design specifications, and to target a certain application field. This requires a design platform that can handle the complexity in performing DoE (Design of Experiment), model extraction from simulation and from measurement result, and eventually, using the validated building blocks to create the chip design.

In this workshop we will learn how to characterize directional coupler and waveguide designs by analyzing measurement results and running circuit simulations. Afterwards, the obtained results will be used to design a lattice filter circuit.

MODEL GAME:
After we learned the basics, users will collaborate in small teams of 2; and compete to create the best model fit, and the best lattice filter.

The winning team is promoted through our communication channels, and receive a 3 months IPKISS license (single seat), and 1 design block on the next MPW run on AMF (AMF-Advacned Micro Foundry Pte Ltd).  In addition the winner will promoted through our communications channels.

REQUIREMENTS:
Attendees need to bring their own laptops. A modern browser (firefox, chrome, safari) is all that is needed in order to participate.

In the workshop you will be working either individually or in groups of 2 people.
